Singapore – Over 2,000 of KPMG's employees spent last Friday in service of the less fortunate and the environment.
Already in its tenth year, Make a Difference Day is a firm-wide cohesive activity that allows KPMG staff the opportunity to spend a day with beneficiaries of the voluntary welfare organisations (VWO). According to Danny Teoh, managing partner at KPMG, Singapore, the needs are identified from the perspective of the VWO and activities are planned in close consultation with the groups so as to ensure the firm meets their particular challenges.
This year, over 900 staff will work with children and youths with intellectual disabilities from Grace Orchard School, Touch Community Services and the Movement for the Intellectually Disabled of Singapore (MINDS).
Another 350 staff will be lend a hand to spiff up the premises of various VWOs, including the Viriya Community Services and MINDS, which cater to the education, social and welfare needs of the intellectually challenged from low-income families. KPMG will also take the children from these beneficiaries on an excursion to Sentosa to catch the educational shows at Underwater World and Dolphin Lagoon.
In line with the event’s twin focus on the environment, over 650 staff members will spend the day cleaning the beaches along Changi Coast. Following which, they will also plant 200 coastal trees near Changi’s coastal walks in partnership with NParks as part of the wider Singapore Garden Fund Objectives.
