Asia - DHL has been contracted to transport 17 tonnes (equivalent to a 40-foot container) of NBA basketball equipment from the US to Macao and Shanghai for the USA Basketball International Challenge.
DHL's partnership with the NBA is part of a multi-year partnership agreement between the two global brands. Under the contract, DHL will be responsible for moving all of NBA's basketball equipment including basketballs, floorboards and basketball hoops used in official matches.
The USA Basketball International Challenge is a series of four exhibition matches played consecutively at the Cotai Strip® CotaiArenaTM in Macao and subsequently at Qizhong Forest Sports City in Shanghai.
Heidi Ueberroth, NBA president of global business operations said, "The collaboration of our global brands last year has since delivered astounding experience and excitement to the millions of basketball fans throughout Asia. We continue to rely on DHL's expertise and reliability in shipping and logistics as we endeavor to preserve the passion and youth participation in the game."
Earlier this year, DHL also undertook the delivery of NBA equipment to India for Basketball without Borders Asia; a global community outreach program jointly organised by the NBA and International Basketball Federation (FIBA).
DHL delivered a total of 5,000 kilogram, or 27 pallets, worth of shipments comprising NBA equipment and apparel to the youth camp in New Delhi, India. In addition to the transportation, DHL also donated sporting equipment and apparel to all participants who convened in New Delhi to take part in the basketball games.
