Career Path Aug 08
1) First job ever? A Christmas holiday job plucking turkeys near a farm where
I lived.
2) First job in marketing? Graduate trainee at an agency called Barraclough
Hall Woolston Gray.
3) Best job? My current one.
4) Perks of your current job? Endless cups of tea from Mr The Tarik Cartel.
And an array of interesting and very passionate staff to share them with.
5) Worst job? I'm pleased to say that plucking turkeys was an all time low.
6) Marketing/ Advertising professionals you admire? Leo Burnett for wise
words, which seem to become wiser with time. Linda Locke and Will Lavender,
the latter from a spell in NZ, for their restless pursuit of excellence.
7) Best career advice you've ever been given? Nobody is in business for fun,
but that does not mean there cannot be fun in business.
8) Why a career in Marketing? I did a masters in medieval history and Italian.
This involved a dissertation on Sienese Altarpieces in the Trecento
(translation: religious artwork, from a small Italian hilltop town, painted
a very long time ago). An unimpressed career consultant suggested either
academia or advertising. I opted for the latter.
9) If you weren't in Marketing what would you be? An academic, I guess.
10) How do you wind down? Running up and down Ulu Pandan canal, listening to
what has been called the worst iTunes collection in Singapore. And playing
with my 3 young children.
