Hong Kong - DHL has been awarded a three-year contract by sheetfed offset printing giants Heidelberger Druckmaschinen to manage the warehousing and distribution of the latter's spare parts centre for Asia.

Under the three-year contract, DHL will manage the warehousing and distribution of the newly established DHL-Heideberg Hong Kong Logistics Centre (HLC), which serves as its spare parts centre for the Asia-Pacific region.

Prior to the Hong Kong centre, spare parts were sent to customers directly from Heidelberg's Spare Parts Centre in Germany. The facility in Hong Kong, to serve 12 countries in Asia, is tipped to improve delivery times and cost efficiencies by 50%.

The companies said in a joint press release that the HLC is a "multi-million dollar investment by Heidelberg".

Geoff Austin, Heidelberg Asia Pacific's senior vp of customer support and PMA said "Asia acific is an important market for Heidelberg, as evident from our investment in the Hong Kong Logistics Centre."

DHL will undertake the management of the 15,000 sq ft warehouse located in Tsuen Wan, operating 24-7, and housing inventory in excess of US$2 million.
