Shanghai - ESPN Star Sports (ESS) has appointed Wong Swee Teng, former consultant for Bertelsmann China, as the new managing director and chief representative for China operations, replacing Gu Lu Feng.
In his new role, Wong will be responsible for the strategic direction and growth of ESPN Star Sports' office in China. He will also manage ESS's business relationships with partners and affiliates in the country.
Wong will report directly to Manu Sawhney, MD for ESS, who said, "Having had the benefit of working in regional and global positions coupled with his solid foundation in operations, distribution and the digital space, I am confident he will do well as our new head of China, a market with many exciting and fast-growing opportunities."
Wong has over 15 years of media industry experience, having started his career in BMG as MD for Taiwan. He has also assumed variious management roles across Asia including COO and CFO for BMG Asia Pacific and senior VP for BMG International.
His last role before ESPN was as consultant for Bertelsmann China, where he was charged to lead the expansion of the organisation's book publishing business and oversaw the restructuring of Bertelsmann's 14 companies in China. Before that, he was MD for Sony BMG China.
