Singapore - Global leader in non-volatile memory chips, Numonyx has launched its distribution centre in Singapore and appointed DHL as its logistics provider.
The facility at Bedok North has a capacity of 18,000 square feet and "will provide Numonyx with significant supply chain efficiencies that will enhance [their] business competitiveness", according to Mathieu Clerkx, senior vice president and general manager for global infrastructure.
The centre will be a base for the worldwide inbound and outbound of all finished products, allowing Numonyx to streamline its distribution to one location.
The company has also appointed DHL as their logistics service provider, managing all of the company's inbound and outbound traffic of finished products.
"By outsourcing the logistics component to DHL, we are able to accelerate internal optimisation and supply chain re-engineering", said Clerkx.
Numonyx's back-end manufacturing sites and a large proportion of their customers and subcontractors are based in Asia, thus locating the centre in Asia will bring the company closer to their supply chain and help them "achieve faster time to market". The company dispatches 70% of its products to Asian destinations, thereby cementing their choice in the Republic.
"Singapore was selected for its central location, strong logistics infrastructure, excellent connectivity to global airports and its stable and progressive political environment", said Clerkx.
Centralising its logistics operations in Singapore is the Numonyx's first step in breaking away from its parent companies, Intel Corp. and STMicroelectronics, world leaders in memory solutions. Before establishing its distribution hub in Singapore, the company used the distribution facilities of the two organisations. Numonyx plans to move all distribution operations here by the first quarter of 2009.
