Hong Kong - A new mailing service designed to support e-commerce has been fully launched by the Hong Kong Post, along with two value-added services.

iMail, which had emerged from its Bulk Registered Air Mail (BRAM) service, was created in August 2005 and was specifically developed for shipping goods from online shops.

Following the rise of online trading due to the increase in internet literacy worldwide, the Hong Kong Post has fully launched the iMail service, which will replace the BRAM service from 14 July, 2008.

The postal organisation said that the postal service which covers over 190 countries worldwide, "provides an ideal B2C (business to consumer) total solution that facilitates the whole mailing process from mail preparation to delivery to overseas buyers."

iMail will include an online mailing tool that provides detailed pricing for mail, generates all-in-one shipping labels and contains posting histories for quick and easy referrals. This will allow mail preparation and posting procedures to be considerably streamlined, making it more efficient.

In addition, a customs pre-declaration function aims to quicken customs clearance, allowing users of the service to meet upcoming customs requirements imposed by European Union member countries and the United States.

Upon receipt of the mail, the addressee will be required to leave a signature to facilitate order tracking and security.

Two value-added services - an online payment facility and insurance service - will also be provided along with iMail to enhance the convenience of users.
