Hong Kong - As part of its 6-year HK$5.5 billion redevelopment project, Ocean Park launched its Ocean Express train project and expects to double the theme park's attraction by 2012.
Ocean Express will be built in a 1.2 km tunnel running across Brick Hilll, parallel to the Cable Car. It is expected to carry 10,000 passengers per hour.
The funicular project started in September last year and will be completed by 2009.
This investment indicates Hong Kong entrepreneur Allan Zeman's determination to defend Ocean Park's position as Hong Kong's oldest amusement park with a history of 30 years after entering a formidable competition with the California-based Disneyland.
"When it opens next year, it will redefine the Ocean Park experience for over five million plus guests we welcome every year," Zeman said.
The number of visitors to Ocean Park hit five million last year.
Webber Shandwick has been tasked to organise all the PR and press events for Ocean Park.
