Hong Kong - The Weinstein Company and News Corporation's STAR have signed an exclusive five-year pan-Asian pay-TV output deal, offering a mix of the latest Asian and Western movies via on STAR Movies.

Glen Basner, president of International Distribution for The Weinstein Company, said STAR was the perfect pay-TV home for its films in Asia, adding that both parties in the past three years have consolidated the infrastructure to distribute its films across multi-mediums.

New movies, such as 1408 and Sicko will be viewable on STAR MOVIES in China. STAR Movies claims more than 39 million home viewers across Asia.

In an effort to bring Asian cinema to the worldwide film marketplace, TWC oversaw a 285-million dollar fund last year in capital for the development, acquisition and marketing for all qualified Asian-themed films over the next six years.
