Singapore - A mock-protest, conceived by Upstream Asia and Sporting Spectrum, to beef up awareness for the Anlene Orchard Mile Run appears to have run afoul of the law.
Around 20 men took part in the 'protest' along Orchard Road on Sunday afternoon to demand for equality and the right to participate in the women-only-run. However the organisers could not produce a permit when the police arrived on the scene, after a member of the public alerted the police of the 'protests', just as the PR-stunt ended.
Sporting Spectrum spokesperson pointed out that the 'mock-protest' was for a photo opportunity and, despite the setback, said it was successful in terms of garnering media coverage.
Both Anlene and Upstream Asia declined comment while all parties involved are currently awaiting further notice from the police on the matter.
The Anlene Orchard Mile is in its second year and will be held on 15 June.
