Singapore - Women across the region will be given the prospect of climbing up the corporate ladder in the travel and tourism sector with a scholarship programme sponsored by MasterCard Worldwide and U21 Global.
The programme is an effort by the two firms to develop skills in the management and marketing in the tourism sector. It is aimed at providing students with a firm grounding in basic management capabilities to plug the talent gap in the industry.
Helen Lange, dean of the Business Management Programmes, U21 Global told Human Resources that there is an additional demand for higher qualifications as a result of the increasing number of women holding leadership positions in the region.
Lange said the scholarship programme was created to encourage organisations to identify and nominate talented high potential women who could best take advantage and use further value-added management skills and knowledge.
She added: "In the long run, this gifted group of women leaders will greatly enhance the global competitiveness of the region's travel and tourism industry by creating a powerful network of senior women executives."
Organisations from the travel and tourism industry across Asia Pacific, South Asia, South Africa, Saudi Arabia and UAE are invited to nominate female employees who they believe will most benefit from the learning and exposure offered by such a scholarship. A panel of judges will be choosing the 20 worthy recipients.
