Singapore - SMRT has launched 'Go Green with SMRT', a five-month long public education campaign which focuses on public transport as a 'green' mode of travel.
The campaign anchors on the creative concept 'Better By Bus/ Better By Train' to show public transport's contribution to cleaner air. Eco-facts from the campaign aim to show the significant environmental contribution that commuters make when they choose to travel by bus or train.
According to SMRT, one of its buses emits just 55g of carbon dioxide per kilometer per passenger compared with 180g per kilometer for the average car carrying one person, based on an average of 20 passengers. While one, it says, an SMRT train is five times more energy efficient than a bus or a car as it uses less energy per passenger per kilometer which means less carbon dioxide emission per person.
SMRT, as part of the campaign, is giving away, in a lucky-draw, a one-year free travel for four on its trains and buses.
