Another digital move for WPP China
Published: Apr 22, 2008 Shanghai - WPP's digital investment arm WPP Digital, has taken a minority stake in advertising and technology company HDT Holdings. Founded in 1999, HDT has offices in Shanghai, Beijing and GuangZhou, employing more than 270 people. WPP joins existing investors CA-JAIC China Internet Fund, Cheng Wei Ventures, Manitou Ventures and Sequoia. HDT products include iCast, a rich media ad-serving product with distribution agreements with all major portal and vertical sites in China, as well as a video ad-service arm iStreaming, which again holds distribution agreements with all major video sites in China. The purchase ads another digital string to its bow, which recently also recently includes the ad-friendly game maker Realtime Worlds, ad targeter Invidi, engagement metrics firm NuConomy and ad tracker IMMI and Spot Runner. WPP's Wunderman marketing services unit also acquired Chinese online ad network Agenda in January. WPP Digital did not release its stake in the company or the minority purchase price.
