Global - BBC has changed the name of its BBC World channel to BBC World News in a bid to better convey the channel's content which over the years, it says, has moved towards its current focus of news and programming.
"Following research across key markets, our audience told us BBC World News was the most compelling name for the channel. Over the past five years, we have invested in extending our news coverage, with output now ranging from breaking news through to stories spanning areas from business to sport and science to entertainment. The new name reflects far better what the channel offers," Sian Kevill, editorial director for BBC World News, said.
A refreshed channel logo and on-air graphics are part of the name change, matching its branding across the UK and international BBC News portfolio. The programming mix on BBC World News will remain the same, according to a press release.
