Hong Kong - PCCW has extended free wireless broadband service to indoor and outdoor areas of the public rental housing estates while granting Wi-Fi internet access to all Hong Kong government service websites and will be launching marketing campaigns to promote the initiative.

The Hong Kong Housing Authority will allow 45 rental housing estates to use the outdoor Wi-Fi service by this August.

With extra shield mechanism, residents can get online with wires via a range of Wi-Fi devices, such as laptops, personal digital assistants (PDAs) and mobile phones.

The number of PCCW Wi-Fi hotspots throughout Hong Kong is ten times higher compared to 2006.

Tom Chan, PCCW's consumer group managing director said the group is committed to help enhance Hong Kong's position as an Asian center of technology and business excellence.

There will be a range of ad campaigns and marketing activities rolled out for this project.
