Jet Airways enters China skies

Hong Kong - The collapse of Oasis Hong Kong Airlines has not discouraged another private carrier jet, India's Jet Airways, from entering Hong Kong's airline business battle field.

Jet Airways has expanded its services to Hong Kong, aimed at the business and banking community as well as leisure travellers. It is also holding talks with Cathay Pacific about serving the Europe and the United States markets in the future.

"We are not afraid of competition," L. D. Ralte, consul general of India, said. He believes Jet Airways' presence in Hong Kong will strengthen China-India's bilateral relations.

Starting from today, a direct route between Mumbai, India and Hong Kong has begun operation, making Hong Kong its 59th destination.

In June 2008, the Mumbai-Shanghai-San Francisco route will be added, subject to government approval.

Senior vice president of the group Liau Nyuk Hoi said the length of this operation is indefinite, unless interrupted by policy or political issues.

M&C Saatchi is the agency behind editorial ads, outdoor and billboard initiatives for the airline, while Strategic Public Relations Group handles PR.
