Hewlett-Packard (HP) has recently launched a worldwide campaign to help raise the awareness of health issues to women working in the supply chain industry.
Striking partnerships with its suppliers Pegatron Technology and FoxConn, HP developed Health Enables Returns (HERproject). This project hopes to improve women workers' general and reproductive health in countries such as China and Vietnam.
A research made by Business for Social Responsibility (BSR), revealed that women, mostly between the ages of 18 to 25, criticised the lack of awareness about their general and reproductive health and hygiene. It showed that five of the most common problems that women face nowadays are reproductive health, lack of STD awareness and prevention, malnutrition, lack of knowledge of illness and infection prevention and treatment and worker education.
Gavin Chen, general manager, Pegatron Technology announced: "By leading companies to augment worker health awareness, HP is giving companies and workers the tools to improve and increase workplace standards and workers' lives."
HERproject has mapped out several activities over a period of 12 months starting with China. HP and BSR will consider rolling out the HERproject in other regions once a full impact assessment is complete.
