HP is the first technology company to reveal a list of its largest suppliers as part of the company's drive toward greater supply chain visibility and supplier collaboration.
HP's list of suppliers represent more than 95% of the company's procurement expenditures for materials, manufacturing and assembly of its products worldwide, the company said.
It is the first major technology company to publicly release a list of suppliers, citing the ultimate goal of achieving transparency and progress in raising standards in the IT industry supply chain.
"HP is sharing our list of top suppliers to enable collaboration, increase supplier accountability and build on our commitment to supply chain transparency," said Mark Hurd, HP chairman and CEO.
The move is expected to positively impact operational changes in supplier labour, health and safety, environmental and ethics practices, as well as encourage other companies to do more to advance supply chain responsibility.
The list comprises HP's contract manufacturers, electronic manufacturing services (EMS) providers, original design manufacturers and commodity suppliers. According to HP, these suppliers must comply with the Electronic Industry Code of Conduct and meet HP's social and environmental responsibility expectations.
"By publishing a list of its top suppliers, HP is taking an important step on the road toward greater transparency as a means for improving the lives of workers," said Rev. David M Schilling, director of global corporate accountability programme, Interfaith Centre on corporate responsibility.
