Motorola has confirmed that it will only staff from the manufacturing service will be affected in upcoming retrenchment exercise.
As part of a global $500-million cost-reduction initiative, Motorola says that it will move its mobile phone manufacturing to other Motorola facilities, and will sack 700 employees as part of its global cost-cutting reduction initiative. The company added that employees will be provided with severance packages and outplacement support.
“This transition will enable Motorola to align the organisational structure with long-term plans to drive the business while continuing to provide its customers with high-quality products and services,” the spokesperson said.
Asia Pacific will remain as a headquarters for regional management activities, both for its businesses and corporate functions, as well as R&D and software-development activities.
