Malaysia - Readers of Chinese newspapers Nanyang Siang Pau and China Press picked Petronas' CNY ad as their top choice for the Chinese New Year Greeting Ad Awards 2008.

The Petronas Tan Tiam Hock ad shows the emotions experienced by a young orphan boy who has no family to relate to. It convincingly delivers the message that people should return home to spend time with their families during the festive season.

The ad script was the brainchild of Leo Burnett's 23-year-old visualiser, Ken Wong, whose mother passed away last year.

The Transport Ministry was the first runner-up for the Awards followed by Kurnia Insurance and Ogawa World in third and fourth place respectively.

Advertisers had to place greeting advertisements in both newspapers to participate in the competition.
