Maersk Group has appointed Henrik Jensen as Maersk Line country manager for Malaysia and Singapore, and Thomas Lindy Sorensen as the new Maersk Line country manager for Thailand.

Their new roles will see Jensen and Sorensen responsible for Maersk Line's activities, including customer service and sales and operations, in their respective countries. Both will report directly to Jesper Praestensgaard, chief executive for Maersk Line Asia Pacific.

Praestensgaard said: "We need to make it easier for our customers to do business with us and I am confident that both Henrik and Thomas will deliver on this. Apart from having a simpler organisational structure, modernisation of the shipping industry holds the key to less complex container shipping. Maersk Line is standardising documentation, data flow and processes across the entire transportation chain. When shippers are able to depend on these standards, container shipping will become easier and more cost-effective."

Jensen previously held the position of head of South-east Asia (SEA) country management, and prior to that he headed the liner and operations activities in SEA. Sorensen was the head of Maersk Line in SEA before this new appointment. He also worked in the commercial management team in Copenhagen.

These new appointments are part of the Maersk Line 'StreamLINE' organisational redesign. Since January this year, Maersk Line was re-organised from 14 areas to 11 regions globally and country organisations. In line with this, the company announced plans to axe some 2,000 - 3,000 positions globally to reduce complexities within the company by reducing bureaucracy.
