Singapore - SPH Search has launched Rednano.sg, Singapore's first search and directory engine, to deliver better results and accessibility to Singapore-specific data.
Rednano is a joint venture between SPH and Norwegian media group Schibsted ASA and took 18 months to develop. It has licensed search technology from FAST Search and Transfer ASA, a developer of enterprise search technologies and solutions. SPH Search has also entered into a partnership with Yahoo which will see Rednano leverage on the search engine giant's Search technology in a bid to generate global search results to users.
Rednano will use a ‘federated search' function, meaning users can conduct one search and get results from each of its six verticals or categories which are Web, News, Images, Directory, People and Maps Search. SPH Search plans to add more features to the search engine and has openly encouraged users to provide feedback on current functions.
"This is an on-going process and still requires some ‘people-ware' rather than merely ‘software'. Nonetheless, there is still much to do and we look forward to more responses to our campaigns, as well as suggestions on how we can improve. This phase of Rednano and the reactions to it by users will allow us to shape our search engine into a better offering by the time we hold our full public launch in a few weeks," Paul Jansen, CEO for SPH Search, said.
