The Ashley Madison Agency

Morals aside, here is an excellent example of advertising that speaks to its target audience in an extremely timely fashion. For those unaware of the Eliot Spitzer sex scandal, here's a brief recap: New York Governor Eliot Spitzer was recently forced to resign after it was discovered he was a customer of a high-class prostitution service; spending some US$80,000 on escort services.

The story broke on 10 March 2008. This advertisement for The Ashley Madison Agency (an online dating service for ‘attached adults') appeared in the New York Post on 13 March 2008.

The Ashley Madison Agency was able to capitalise on the pulse of the day with a quickly and cleverly crafted message. The ad appeared opposite editorial detailing the sordid details of the scandal. They could not have asked for a better editorial adjacency!

And ultimately, this ad proves, yet again, that sex still sells.
