Hong Kong - Nielsen//NetRatings has launched an audited measurement service for digital audio and video content, called SiteCensus Streaming.

The service aims to address the rapid growth of online audio and video as well as the convergence of internet and television content – and respond to advertisers needs to have an independent measurement tool.

SiteCensus Streaming offers data on the number of unique views, stream views, average stream duration and completed streams, geographic location, and streaming launch URL which are pages from which stream views are initiated.

Subscribers tag their streams with a code which triggers a stream viewer’s browser to alert the NetRatings server with the relevant details of the stream and the site from which it came. NetRatings can then report actual counts for the client’s video streams.

“In developing measurement for online streaming, we faced various challenges, like the great variety of media formats, significant differences in stream content detail available and, above all, the lack of a standard method in categorising content and identifying the source of the stream. We have now set the standards for measurement of digital audio and video for the online industry – globally,” Megan Clarken (pictured), VP of SiteCensus & Project Management for Nielsen//NetRatings said in a statement.
