Singapore - DDB Singapore carried on its tradition of performing at the Effies by becoming Singapore's first ever Asia Pacific Effie Award gold medal winner at Friday night's inaugural World Effie Festival gala dinner.
DDB Singapore won gold for its "Smart TV" work for StarHub. Effie success is not new to the agency which at the Effie Singapore awards in June last year, as reported by Marketing, picked up two gold awards on that night where the Institute of Advertising Singapore (IAS) first announced that Singapore would host the inaugural World Effie Festival.
"StarHub and DDB are very happy to be first - it's a tremendous honour to be the first marketer and agency in Singapore to win Gold at the Asia Pacific Effie. We're on the world stage. The Effie is the new benchmark in creativity, and we're very pleased to see the artists and the marketers in StarHub and DDB produce breakthrough marketing results as it did with this campaign," David Tang, president and CEO forDDB Group Singapore said.
Saatchi & Saatchi Singpore's ‘Navy Page-Turner' campaign for the Republic of Singapore Navy was the only other local agency to come away with an Asia Pacific Effie award, winning bronze.
The Asia-Pacific Effies were open to winners of national Effie Awards from Singapore, China, Hong Kong, India and New Zealand as well as entries from other countries around the region which do not yet host national Effies such as Australia, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Philippines Thailand, Taiwan, Vietnam, Bahrain, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. There were 24 campaigns listed as finalists and nine were from countries which do not yet have their own domestic Effie Award programmes.
"The breadth of participation in this year's competition says that the Effie Awards are understood and respected, not only as proof of the skill and talent of the agencies and clients who win them, but also as evidence of the growing professionalism of marketing communications in Asia. When winning an Effie matters, it means accountability and the spirit of agency-client collaboration needed to demonstrate it are here to stay," Judd Labarthe, Chairman of the Asia Pacific Effie Awards and executive planning director, Atletico International and Argonauten G2 said.
