Terri Seow

Head of marketing, APAC

BBC World

1. First job ever?

Marketing coordinator at a car company during my school holidays.

2. First job in marketing?

When I joined National Geographic Channels (Asia) as VP of marketing. Based in Hong Kong, I was in charge of consumer and trade marketing for the region, as well as the launch of a number of new TV channels.

3. Your best job?

I always seek the best - if I don't believe my current job is best for me, I would leave.

4. Perks of your current job?

The adrenalin rush I get from working for a 24-hour news channel and meeting and hearing first-hand, behind-the-scene stories and experiences of BBC correspondents who have been to remote locations or in trying situations.

5. Worst job?

Back when I was still a student, I took up a job as a sales assistant in a fashion boutique during the holidays. I left after three days of being in a position where I always had to say yes even to unreasonable and rude customers. It was just too much!

6. Marketing professionals you admire?

David Aaker and Howard Schultz - go read the book 'Pour Your Heart Into It'.

7. Best career advice you've ever been given?

Never lose your passion. Do it only if you believe in it.

8. Why a career in marketing?

It was an exciting next step for me after nearly 10 years in advertising. Being in marketing allows one to fully understand and make decisions on the 'Why' and the 'What', and not just the 'How'.

9. If you weren't in marketing what would you be?

I'd probably be a vet. I am an animal lover.

10. How do you wind down?

In the jacuzzi with a glass of wine
