CAAS awards tender to upgrade Terminal 1

The Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) has awarded the tender to upgrade Singapore Changi Airport Terminal 1 to Takenaka Corporation.

The project has been valued at S$500 million.

The concept for the new Terminal 1 is “Tropical City” is aimed to improve passenger flow at key areas. The exterior of the terminal, departure kerbside, departure check-in hall, departure transit mall and arrival hall are to be upgraded under this program.

Seating in the gate hold rooms will be enhanced and the older sections of the finger piers will be expanded to improve its processing capacity. Services and facilities at Terminal 1’s will also be improved by increasing the retail and F&B outlets.

“Terminal 1’s upgrading is part of our infrastructure upgrade plans. With the recently renovated Terminal 2 and newly opened Terminal 3, Terminal 1’s face lift will ensure that all passengers at Changi Airport can enjoy the same exciting, vibrant and enjoyable Changi Experience.” Lim Kim Choon, director-general and chief executive officer of CAAS, said.

Upgrading works for the project will commence in May 2008 and are slated to be completed in 2011.
