Samsung names new semicon supplier

Samsung Electronics has named NXP Semiconductors as one of its 3G solutions suppliers at the Mobile World Congress held in Spain.

The contact will see NXP's Nexperia Cellular System Solution 7210 installed in Samsung's new generation UMTS/EDGE handset.

Frans van Houten, chief executive officer of NXP Semiconductors said, "Extending the collaboration we have with Samsung in GSM/GPRS and EDGE, and more recently in TD-SCDMA, to UMTS is an exciting step for NXP. We are honoured to become one of the 3G suppliers of such an innovative and successful handset manufacturer."

The Nexperia Cellular System Solution 7210 has hardware extensions for connectivity and broadcast such as Bluetooth, GPS, FM Radio and Near Field communications. Multimedia options such as video, imaging and audio are also available.
