DHL has been awarded a global freight contract with Siemens to streamline the latter's overall supply chain.
The logistics service provider is also tasked to improve Siemens's service levels and reduce overall costs under the global partnership.
According to Mike Brewer, director of corporate transportation at Siemens, the contract was awarded based on DHL's expertise in developing supply chain distribution and management solutions.
DHL was also named the preferred international carrier for Siemens's air and ocean freight and customs brokerage business in the US and has been re-awarded an exclusive contract for Siemens Energy and Automation Europe to US Drop Shipment Programme, where goods are shipped from a manufacturer directly to a dealer or consumer, bypassing the wholesaler.
"Our solutions have a proven record to reduce costs, streamline the supply chain process, reduce transit times and deliver overall improved service levels and visibility to Siemens' customers," said Hans Toggweiler, CEO DHL Global Forwarding, North America. "We are delighted to have the opportunity to deliver even more results for Siemens over the next year."
The companies have worked together for the past 15 years.
