Singapore and the Scandinavian countries of Denmark, Norway and Sweden have concluded bilateral Open Skies Agreements (OSAs) that will give the countries' cargo airlines unlimited "hubbing" rights.

With the OSAs, airlines of both Singapore and the Scandinavian countries will be able to fly between Singapore and any point in Scandinavia, via and beyond to any third country, without restrictions in capacity, frequency or aircraft type.

The OSAs are also more liberal than conventional OSAs because it provides for unlimited "hubbing" rights for the cargo airlines of Singapore and the Scandinavian countries - this means cargo airlines will be allowed to base its aircraft in any point in Scandinavia or Singapore and use it as a hub to operate to any country without restrictions on destination, frequency of service or capacity, said a statement issued by the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) statement.

"These agreements will generate benefits that extend beyond the aviation sector, promoting greater trade and investment flows between Singapore and Scandinavia," said Lim Kim Choon, director-general and CEO of CAAS.

Singapore Airlines Cargo currently operates five weekly all-cargo services between Singapore and Copenhagen via points in the Middle East and Europe.

The signing of the OSAs bring Singapore's open skies agreement to over 20 countries, including 13 within the European Union.
