Industry churn plagues creative sectors

Hong Kong - The media, PR and advertising sectors have been singled out as having the highest staff turnover of any industry, including banking, IT and manufacturing.

A report from recruitment firm Hudson, said the PR and creative industries was the highest of all industries surveyed at 47%.

Staff poaching was seen as the single most important factor behind staff turnover. Across all the sectors surveyed, 29% cite this issue.

Dissatisfaction with salary and bonus, limited career progression and personal factors are also seen as significant reasons, being mentioned by 18%, 17% and 17% respectively.

The annual report also said salaries in the creative sectors were getting higher. 

Aruna Alimchandani, manager of the sales & marketing team at Hudson, said strategy and planning skills in the digital and media buying areas here in demand.

"Digital is a hot space," Alimchandani said. "A lot of traditional media companies are improving their digital products."

Alimchandani said clients were also looking for staff experienced in integrated solutions.
