Singapore - Former director of enterprise and alliances for M1, Poopalasingam Subramaniam has been promoted to the company's newly created chief marketing officer (CMO) role.

Subramaniam now reports to CEO, Neil Montefiore, and takes charge of a M1 marketing function that comprises of consumer and enterprise products, retail and other sales channels, marketing communications and product development. He has been with M1 since 1999.

In other news, M1 and MediaCorp are expected to launch a consumer trial for a mobile TV in Singapore, based on Digital Video Broadcasting Handheld (DVBH) technology. Subject to regulatory approval, the trial service is planned for a mid-year launch, and an invitation to tender has been issued for vendors to submit proposals for mobile TV infrastructure and devices, including a trial service. This follows a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between M1 and MediaCorp last October to collaborate on the mobile TV service.

"Mobile TV is an exciting new media that breaks the traditional boundary of broadcast television entertainment by making it conveniently accessible to any one with a mobile phone. With the DVBH promise of good audio-visual quality and interesting content from MediaCorp as well as other leading broadcasters, we will deliver a compelling mobile TV experience for our customers," Montefiore said.
