UPS this week launched a new global air freight portfolio, featuring an expanded express freight option with guaranteed door-to-door service.

The new service, called UPS Express Freight, will more than triple the number of express lanes currently served, the company said.

For less time-sensitive global movements, UPS launched two non-guaranteed alternatives: UPS Air Freight Direct and UPS Air Freight Consolidated. The first is a one-to-three day airport-to-airport service, while the latter is a three-to-five day airport to airport service. Both are available worldwide and offer pickup, delivery and customs clearance as optional features.

In addition, UPS will introduce an automatic online day-specific scheduling for customers whose freight shipments are moving on third-party aircraft, upping visibility and predictability, the company said.

"The reinvention of our global air freight portfolio positions us well in the marketplace," said Alan Gershenhorn, senior vice president for worldwide sales and marketing. "Our customers gain more flexibility and control over their freight shipments without sacrificing single-source accountability."

"Because UPS operates as both an integrator and air freight forwarder, we have a unique vantage point and understand the nuances of the two very different networks," added Dan Brutto, president, UPS International. "We have designed an industry-leading suite of services that plays to the strengths of each air network and produces a higher degree of choice and predictability than any other company in the air freight industry."
