SMRT signs on advertisers for Tunnel TV
Singapore - Standard Chartered Bank, the Republic of Singapore Navy and M&M's Chocolate have signed on to run digital image ads in MRT train tunnels, as part of a new media offering by SMRT.
The recently launched Tunnel TV comprises a series of 360 LED panels mounted on walls in the tunnels to screen advertisements, and made its debut on 24 December 2007 along the two-minute southbound train ride between Newton and Orchard MRT stations. The LED panels are synchronised to train speeds to create exciting moving images during a train ride.
"At SMRT, we are always looking at how we can leverage on our network and harnessing technology to provide fun and entertaining information for people on the move. This exciting media form will add an interesting dimension for advertisers to reach out to this highly targeted audience of commuters on a train ride," Jeslyn Tan, deputy director, media, SMRT Investments, said.
Commenting on the new medium, major Eric Tan, head of Navy Recruitment Centre, said: "The Republic of Singapore Navy is always exploring new frontiers in our advertising efforts. With the Tunnel TV, we can leverage on the latest technology and the extensive reach on the main MRT line to showcase the Navy career as a fun, exciting and adventurous one."
