Dell's push not made to order
Published: Dec 18, 2007 Malaysia - PC in a box company Dell is delivering its new shopfront selling strategy to Malaysia as part of a global push and is now selling its branded products in TecAsia outlets across the country. Dell remained behind rivals Hewlett-Packard in worldwide sales in the third quarter 2007 and, according to iSuppli, which tracks computer sale trends, HP shipped 13.1 million PCs compared to Dell's 9.9 million in that period. In a bid to reclaim its number one position, Dell, which built its business on a mail order platform, announced it would partner with Wal-Mart US, Carrefour Europe, Bic Camera Japan and GOME Electrical Appliances China to sell its PCs through retail. However the company says that there are no plans to abandon its direct-selling model. TecAsia is a subsidiary of FTEC Resources which has invested about RM20 million in the new Low Yat outlet. |
