Turner enters digital candy trade

China - Turner Broadcasting System has struck an agreement with Duo Guo, a Shanghai-based operator of branded retail stores, to sell its Cartoon Network mobile content.

Duo Guo's kiosks are located around high traffic areas like Walmart and Carrefour, will sell the content, referred to as "digital candy" from Turner's Cartoon Network's cartoons including The Powerpuff Girls, Tom & Jerry and Scooby-Doo at a cost of RMB2 or RMB15 for colour wallpapers..

"Turner is excited about the potential to bring our Cartoon Network brand closer to this huge audience via Duo Guo's direct-to-consumer business model," Ringo Chan, VP, wireless & interactive content, development & distribution at Turner, said.

Duo Guo owns and operates China's only retail distribution platform exclusively selling mobile content services.

The content will include such things as games, ringtones, videos, software and other content.

The move opens a potentially lucrative revenue stream, with China's mobile market growing at a rapid rate.
