The Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) said Singapore's air cargo industry has benefited from the addition of new cargo flights including United Parcel Services, Shanghai Airlines Cargo International, Asiana Airlines, China Eastern Airlines, EVA Airways and home-grown Jett8 Airlines Cargo.

Commenting on the growing number of cargo flights, CAAS director-general and CEO Lim Kim Choon said it was "a reflection of the airline industry's confidence in Singapore's growth potential for...cargo traffic".

CAAS previously announced a new air transport agreement inked between Singapore and Canada that will liberalise all-cargo flights between the two countries.

Aimed at strengthening bilateral ties between the two countries in the areas of tourism, trade and investment, CAAS said the agreement will create a more open aviation framework for Singapore and Canada.

"This new agreement represents a significant step in further strengthening the bilateral relations between Singapore and Canada. It demonstrates our two countries' commitment to pursue a common goal of achieving a more liberal aviation framework in the global aviation arena," said Lim.

Under the bilateral agreement, Singapore carriers are allowed to decide the frequency of operating their all-cargo flights between Singapore and Canada, via selected intermediate points. Canadian carriers will enjoy similar traffic rights and privileges.
