Singapore airlines soars with A380

The month of October was a great one for some and a disappointing one for most. Singapore Airlines led this month in both local and global leagues with an increment of 1150 % from two to 25 and 1661% from 18 to 317 respectively. This sees it leap way off the charts compared to the next highest in the global and local table with only 30 and 20 mentions each for DBS which in fact fell from its yearlong highest record for last month. The spike can definitely be attributed to the launch of the Airbus A380 which took its maiden commercial flight from Singapore to Sydney on 25 October after much delay and fanfare.

In terms of percentages, Capitaland takes the cake with an increase of 2600% - a jump from just one mention to 27 mentions globally. The jump is likely a result of its performance in Q3 this year as it released its quarterly results which saw the property magnate more than double its profits compared to 2006. It also held the Raffles International Leadership Lecture in Singapore in the same month.  Interesting to note that although Flextronics recorded a null in citations locally, its global hits were 11 seeing it head into the top five in the global charts. This could be ascribed to its move in releasing its fantastic report card which saw its income and profits increased significantly for Q2.

With the exception of DBS the other banks have recorded a less than stellar performance this year. In ‘06 globally/locally, DBS led the charts with 190/92 followed by UOB 164/110 and OCBC 59/37, however this year other than DBS with a global/local high of 242/96, UOB and OCBC clocked a dismal 34/21, 88/44 respectively.
