Brand Influence League - Nov07

By: Cherisse Beh, Singapore
Published: Oct 05, 2007

In both global and Singapore media, the top three companies in Marketing's monthly Brand Influence League were head and shoulders above the rest. DBS topped both charts with 84 global and 20 local citations which are its highest figures in the past year, translating into 950% and 300% increases respectively. This was probably due to the local bank's Chinese-American chief Jackson Tai breaking news on the relinquishing of his role on 24 Sept and his imminent departure end of this year. Second highest was SingTel with 29 global stories, an increase of 93%, also carving its highest record this year - but still a far cry from July 2006's peak of 96 counts. Singapore Airlines, albeit in third position, plummeted to 18 from 44 mentions globally, its lowest in five months. The numbers would probably inch up again after the A380 launch late this month. CDL in fourth place stayed fairly constant with just one mention. STATS ChipPAC popped onto the chart this month with six mentions.

Unexpectedly for local media, CapitaLand which had had pretty consistent readings the past few months saw its reportage drop to just one. September marked a dry month in local CEO mentions for a couple of companies, they include OCBC, SPH, SMRT, APB and Great Eastern Holdings with not even a whisper of a mention. Starhub's Clontz on the other hand saw its name creep from August's one to September's four which marks a 300% increase, the highest it has clocked in the past six months.  The other telco chief, M1's Montefiore appeared in the league arm in arm with Jardine Cycle and Carriage's Cheah. SingTel fared well in September with 11 counts, higher than the previous month's eight - the highest it has finished this year. On the whole it was not a prolific month for most companies with the exception of DBS and SingTel.
