GSC surprises with April Fool's freebies
Malaysia - In conjunction with April Fool's Day, which also marks Golden Screen Cinemas (GSC)'s 25th anniversary, the cinema announced it was giving away 25,000 free movie tickets to the public on 1 April.
Although thought by most as a joke at first, the cinema saw 85% of its 25,000 tickets redeemed and found there was increased interaction with users on its social media sites.
The free tickets enabled viewers to pick from any of 15 movies currently showing at the cinema, such as Wrath of the Titans, The Hunger Games, Mirror Mirror and The Vow, which were top picks among viewers.
To redeem the free ticket, the public needed to show the GSC newspaper cinema listings, the GSC 25,000 tickets giveaway advertisement, which was placed in selected local newspapers or print out the free ticket redemption coupon from GSC's website or Facebook page. Some viewers woke up as early as 8am to queue up to redeem their tickets.
Throughout the redemption period, the company saw a high level of engagement on its official Facebook fan page, which has more than 619,000 fans, posting questions and feedback on the giveaway. They also saw many people tweet and share the post about the redemption via social media.
GSC general manager, Irving Chee said: "This is our way of thanking our customers for their continuous patronage and loyal support throughout these 25 remarkable years. GSC will continue to evolve and re-invent itself to meet the current needs of movie goers and to ensure an enriching movie going experience for movie fans".
Some of its plans for the year include the introduction of the GSC Mobile App (Android) for the Samsung Tab 10.1, online purchase for concession items and including more payment mode for online purchases with Hong Leong Connect and AmBank Group in 2012.
