Yap to head Dentsu Media Malaysia
Malaysia - Dentsu will be starting up a media arm in Malaysia, Dentsu Media Malaysia, which will be headed by Yap Chee Weng and set to be fully operational by next month.
Yap was previously the CEO of Starcom MediaVest Group Malaysia.
Dentsu Media Malaysia, which will have about 12 employees, is aimed to enhance Dentsu Group's presence in the growing Malaysian market and to expand its media operations.
According to the March 2012 edition of Advertising Expenditure Forecasts by ZenithOptimedia, Malaysia's advertising market showed a 8.4% increase from 2010 to US$2,019 million. It is projected to grow 8.3% to US$2,186 million this year, 5.4% to US$2,304 million in 2013, and 8.5% to US$2,499 million in 2014.
Dentsu Media Malaysia will work in collaboration with both of Dentsu's local brand agencies, Dentsu Malaysia and Dentsu Utama. Together, the three companies will develop services directed towards the acquisition of new regional and local clients in addition to Japanese clients.
Upon being contacted by A+M, the agency's representative said they could not share more information about the new company at this period.
Some of Dentsu Malaysia's clients include Maybank, Telecom Malaysia, Toyota, Canon, Kao and Yakult.
Dentsu Media Malaysia will become the media network's 10th agency. Currently, Dentsu Media network is present in Taiwan, Thailand, China, Indonesia, Singapore, India, South Korea, Hong Kong and Vietnam.
