Global - Yahoo has been secretly sending out invites for a beta version of its own take on social networking.
Although by invite only, Will Aldrich, the head of the Mash team at Yahoo has put up a public blog for Mash. Comments from users have shown that is seems to be a mini-me of Facebook only messier - in the good way - users have the option of editing the pages of people in their network.
However, the change is not permanent as there is the option to not allow edits and undo changes. Currently, only internal applications can be added to personal pages however, Yahoo would be possibly allow external developers once it goes public.
According to an article on the New York Times, "Mash is trying very hard to be hip, particularly in its bountiful use of slang. Email notifications of new friends start 'Woot.' A link that turns off the color and background of a page reads, 'this is fugly'. And not only can you feed your pet, you can 'snorgle' it."
