Singapore - ESPN STAR Sports has installed Manu Sawhney as managing director after Jamie Davies resigned from the position he has held for two years.
On behalf of the ESPN STAR Sports Board of Directors, Russell Wolff, managing director, ESPN International and STAR's CEO Paul Aiello said in a statement, "Manu's background and experience in sports broadcasting is unmatched. He has played an instrumental role in the growth of the company by leading the negotiations of a number of major sports acquisitions and key Indian affiliate renewals during his time in India, tremendously expanding the programming choices"
Sawhney said, "I have truly enjoyed the excitement and challenges in sports broadcasting throughout my career at ESPN STAR Sports. I am particularly proud to have been with the company since its inception, and feel fortunate to have played a part in its fantastic growth over the years. "
He started his tenure in ESPN STAR Sports in 1996 as marketing manager and was promoted to MD, ESPN Software India, a position which he remained in for four years. Next, he moved to Singapore as senior vice president of programming and event management and consecutively executive vice president of programming and marketing where his expanded responsibilities include network presentation and marketing & communications.
Davies will take on a consultancy role in the meantime to ensure a smooth transition.
