The Post: Google targets the mobile $

What is says: A market of 600 to 700 million users is hard to ignore so we're not surprised to see that Japan, China, India and Australia are among the 13 countries targeted by Google for the launch of its Adsense for Mobile program. It will be interesting to watch the B2B media impact of this in Asia. There are huge numbers of small businesses in China and India run almost exclusively from mobile phones. We'll watch with interest for Baidu's response.

The Post: Google Goes Mobile

What it says: Analyst Frost & Sullivan predicts that the mobile advertising market will reach US$2.1 billion by 2011. Worldwide, the outlook is even rosier: $10 billion per year by 2010 says the Shoesteck Group. I've said it here recently, but it's worth repeating: Mobile is the Future. The lack of companies in the performance marketing space in the mobile arena has created a market vacuum which Google will easily slide into and dominate.

The Post: Watered-Down AdSense for Mobile

What it says: As a not-evil mega-corporation, Google has opted current AdWords advertisers into the mobile network for the next two months, free of charge. That's very nice of Google, I'd say. It would be nicer, however, if AdSense for Mobile weren't a waste of time. The only way I can see AdSense for Mobile ever actually being worth the effort of creating and managing a well-optimized campaign is if it's the only way to access a mobile web customer using the long-rumored gPhone. But Google's not evil, so they wouldn't act like a monopoly. Right? Hmm.

The Post: Google Launches AdSense Mobile:

What is says: At first thought, I see this as more of a benefit to advertisers than users, with publishers gaining profits depending on users who actively click on ads. With such little space on screen, an ad could take up a significant amount of space. But with all the talk recently of a Google phone, it wouldn't surprise me that they are designing a mega mobile advertising system, should they actually release the phone into market.
