The Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) welcomed Jett8 Airlines Cargo, the second Singapore-based airline to offer all-cargo flights after Singapore Airlines Cargo.
Since its inaugural flight to Hong Kong on 23 June 2007, Jett8, operating with B747-200 freighter aircraft, has expanded its network to include Dubai, Manchester and Luxembourg.
The airline has a capacity of 100 tons.
"The establishment of Jett8 reflects the conducive operating environment at Changi that supports the entry and growth of new players in the airline industry," said minister of state for finance and transport Lim Hwee Hua at the welcome ceremony.
She expressed optimism over growth opportunities in the logistics sector strong. "One key driver will be the growing logistics outsourcing market, which is expected to see double digit growth over the next few years, reaching US$90 billion by 2012."
Changi Airport was ranked sixth in the world for international cargo tonnage last year, making it one of Asia's top four players. The airport is served by about 80 scheduled airlines, operating some 4,200 weekly scheduled flights to more than 190 cities in 59 countries.
