Mocca debuts as top local classifieds stop

Singapore - MediaCorp's new classifieds website Mocca recently launched as the leading website in its category - thanks to the ‘used cars' search term - capturing 36.44% of the market, reported online research company Hitwise.

The measurement was taken for the week ending 11 August and was for the category Shopping & Classifieds - Classifieds industry.

Search term data suggested ‘used cars' was the 10th most popular term to drive visitors to Mocca, accounting for 0.86% of traffic during the 24 week period ending 25 August, and SGCarMart was one of the most popular websites referring traffic to Mocca, representing 1.91% of the upstream share.

The entrance of Mocca strongly impacted overall visits to the Classifieds industry, with visits spiking by 59% for the week ending 11 August. The industry has grown by 56% over a 24 month period, now accounting for 0.18% of all Singapore internet visits.

According to Hitwise, the fact that Classifieds websites account for 0.24% of Australian website visits, and 1.08% of online traffic in the US market suggests that there is room for further penetration in Singapore with the new competition.

Yahoo Singapore was the top referring website to the Classifieds industry for the week ending 25 August. Google Singapore and Yahoo Singapore Search followed, accounting for 7.79% and 4.87% share respectively. Friendster was also an important source of traffic at 4th position with 4.75% share.
