Singapore - The Asian Food Channel (AFC) has hired Deepak Mirpuri as head of ad sales and marketing, nearly three months after the departure of its former VP of sales and marketing, Debbie Lee.

"This is a key strategic hire for us and is important in aiding our continued expansion across the regional markets. With the channel's growing profile, Deepak's experience will be invaluable to us and we welcome all the knowledge and enthusiasm he brings, Maria Brown, MD for AFC said.

Mirpuri was VP of sales Asia for Discovery Networks Asia until June 2006 and he was tasked with leading ad sales strategy and execution across all of Discovery's six networks in the region. Prior to the AFC appointment, he ran his own consultancy business.

"I hope my previous experience in the media across Asia and beyond will provide a new platform of ideas and development for this channel and its plans for the future. I am passionate about food and television so I relish the challenges that await me in this role and am excited to learn and experience the pleasures of cuisine on a different level," he said in a statement.
