Sony ad spend closes in on $15m so far

Singapore - Past the halfway point for the year, Sony is yet again the top advertiser in Singapore, spending close to $15 million for the period 1 January to 30 June, according to Nielsen Media Research.

SPH and MediaCorp, while being shoo-ins to the list, were omitted from this particular line-up as both run much in-house advertising.

According to Mediaedge:cia Singapore GM, Sharon Soh, the list "does not have too many surprises" as Sony was the leading spender last year, and this latest half year results are "no doubt boosted by retail spend against Sony branded products".

"StarHub has slipped a bit in the year to date rankings to tenth place - in 2006 it took an astonishing second place above the stellar likes of P&G, Cold Storage, Unilever and Nokia. SingTel has risen from tenth place last year to third - a position that one would expect of a leading national telco. A big contributor to this being the launch of Mio," she said.

Soh did tell Marketing that perhaps Warner Music being ranked so high at this stage (eight versus thirteenth in 2006) was a bit of a surprise and also said that Asia Pacific Breweries was a significant absence from the top 10. APB was the sixth highest spender last year.
