Crowbar winner crowned, students' creativity lauded

Singapore - Syed Shameer Shah's ‘State - Politics Satire Magazine' has picked up the Best of Design as well as Best of Show awards at last week's Crowbar awards.

Goh Wee Kim, co-chairman, Crowbar Awards 2007 said, "Every category displayed an abundance of creativity. The judges were highly impressed with the students' submissions. As with previous Crowbars winners, I am sure that this year's crop will also go on to do very well in the creative industry."

Entries were from various sectors related to the advertising industry, from Advertising, Design, Film, and Interactive to Photography with a new category, the Napkin Category making its debut this year. Submissions for this category do not need to have been executed previously. The Silver Award was given to Quek E- Sian of Nanyang Technological University for his Interactive category entry ‘Viagra'.

Another breakthrough for the award was its expansion into a three-day Crowbar Festival. Launching with the ‘Breaking In Workshop' covering two major disciplines - Advertising and Design, this mentor-ship programme was led by 14 creative practitioners from Singapore and the region, benefiting the pioneer batch of 30 students.

The Awards attracted 1,136 entries from 25 schools, the second highest in the history of the Crowbars. This annual show recognises young new talent from local institutions, and this year it welcomes new entries from five overseas schools - marking the foreign involvement to seven.

The event was organised by the Association of Accredited Agents Singapore (4As).
