Singapore - SPH Search, a collaboration between Singapore Press Holdings Group and Schibsted ASA, has announced its plans to create a local web index for Singapore.

SPH Search has started crawling and indexing relevant websites as part of its plans for the search engine that will aim to provide highly relevant search results, and has licensed search technology from Fast Search and Transfer ASA in its bid to be a leading online search engine.

"A Singapore-based web index will provide local users the ability to search localised content and we will want to make sure such content is accurate, updated and relevant for Singaporeans to use," Elsie Chua, chairman of SPH Search said.

In line with the announcement, SPH Search also unveiled its corporate logo which is shaped like the letter ‘I', to signify ‘Information, ideas and imagination'.

Paul Jansen, CEO of SPH Search said the national colours of red and white were chosen to signify the local flavour of the search engine, while the red and white diamonds on the logo are a symbolic representation of the shape of Singapore.
